Terrain Sync
Terrain Sync lets you link your Scouts Australia Terrain account to Tussock and synchronise roster, attendance, and award data between the two systems.
Linking your Terrain account
Section titled “Linking your Terrain account”Each leader links their own Terrain account independently. This ensures achievement pushes are attributed to the correct leader.
- Go to Group > Settings > Terrain.
- Select your region (ACT, NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, NT).
- Enter your member number and password.
- Tussock authenticates directly with Terrain’s identity provider — your password is never stored on Tussock’s servers.
- Select which sections to link (defaults to all).
Once linked, a summary shows your link status and how many leaders in your Group are linked.
Importing Scouts from Terrain
Section titled “Importing Scouts from Terrain”After linking, you can import your Terrain roster:
- Tap Import Scouts from Terrain.
- Tussock fetches your Terrain roster and matches it against your existing Tussock roster.
- Each Scout falls into one of three buckets:
- Auto-linked — confident match on name + section (shown in green)
- Needs review — ambiguous match; you pick from candidates
- New Scout — no match found; choose to create or skip
- Confirm your choices and tap Import.
Results show how many Scouts were linked, created, or skipped.
Achievement sync
Section titled “Achievement sync”The Sync with Terrain button compares your Tussock achievement data with Terrain:
- Pull — imports achievements from Terrain into Tussock (OAS stages, milestones, SIAs)
- Push — sends Tussock-awarded achievements back to Terrain, grouped by awarding leader for attribution
Results show expandable sections for pulled items, pushed items, and per-requirement sync details.
OAS requirement validation
Section titled “OAS requirement validation”A read-only comparison of Tussock’s OAS requirement database against Terrain’s canonical template tree. This detects drift between the two systems:
- Drift types: added in Terrain, removed from Terrain, title changed, description changed
- Per-stream breakdown (all 9 streams)
- Summary showing how many streams are in sync and total differences
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”Tussock takes a privacy-first approach to Terrain integration:
- Passwords are authenticated directly with AWS Cognito — they never touch Tussock’s servers
- Only the refresh token is stored, encrypted at rest with a per-row key (AES-256-GCM)
- Tussock never fetches or stores date of birth from Terrain
- Only
id,member_number,first_name, andlast_initialare read from Terrain profiles
Token expiry
Section titled “Token expiry”Terrain refresh tokens expire after approximately 30 days. When your token expires, Tussock prompts you to re-link. You can also unlink at any time, which soft-deletes the stored credentials.
