Running an Active Night
The Active Night view is your live dashboard during a Scout event. Open it from the Active tab.
Starting the night
Section titled “Starting the night”- Open the Active tab.
- You’ll see today’s planned events. Tap Start night to activate one.
- If an event is already active, it shows a Resume button instead.
Events are sorted with active events first, then future drafts, then recent past.
The roster grid
Section titled “The roster grid”Once the night is active, you’ll see every Scout in your section, grouped by patrol. For cross-section events, Scouts are grouped first by section, then by patrol within each section.
Toggling attendance
Section titled “Toggling attendance”Tap a Scout’s card to toggle them between present and absent. Present Scouts show at full opacity; absent Scouts are dimmed with an “Absent” label.
All attendance changes are saved to the server immediately. If the save fails, the toggle rolls back and you’ll see an error toast.
Adjusting PAL roles
Section titled “Adjusting PAL roles”Each Scout has a coloured PAL pill (P, A, or L). Tap the pill to cycle: Participate > Assist > Lead > Participate.
Pre-assigned roles from the event wizard are shown by default. Adjust them on the fly if reality differs from the plan (e.g. a Scout stepped up to Lead).
Overriding awards
Section titled “Overriding awards”Tap the flag icon on a Scout’s card to toggle Do not award. Overridden Scouts won’t receive OAS progress or PAL credits when you Complete & Award, even if they’re marked present.
Multi-day events
Section titled “Multi-day events”When an event spans multiple days (e.g. a camp), a day picker bar appears at the top. Tap a day to see and manage attendance for that specific day. A Scout is eligible for awards if they were present on any day.
Night log
Section titled “Night log”Tap Night log — Take notes to open a journal. Type @ to tag a Scout — tagged notes appear on their profile. Use this for qualitative reflections during or after the night.
Consent badges
Section titled “Consent badges”When consent is enabled, each Scout shows a consent badge:
- Granted (green) — parent has consented
- Pending (amber) — consent request sent, awaiting response
- Verbal — verbal consent recorded by leader
Tap a pending badge to open the consent resolve modal, where you can:
- Record verbal consent — enter the parent’s name and confirm. Use this when a parent says yes at drop-off.
- Attending without consent — last resort, requires a reason. Use only when the parent is unreachable and sending the Scout home would be worse. This is audit-logged.
Sticky footer
Section titled “Sticky footer”The bottom bar shows:
- N/M present — live attendance count
- N reqs · N will earn — how many OAS requirements are targeted and how many Scouts will earn them
- Complete & Award button — opens the review modal to close the night
