Consent
Tussock handles two types of consent: standing consent (annual) and per-event consent (for activities outside the normal meeting scope).
Standing consent
Section titled “Standing consent”Standing consent covers routine meetings at the regular venue. Parents sign it once per registration year.
- The Group Owner publishes a consent template at Group > Consent templates.
- When a parent claims their profile, they’re prompted to sign standing consent for each child.
- Standing consent is valid for 12 months from the sign date.
- Templates are versioned — publishing a new version preserves old ones for audit (signed consents reference the template version they were signed against).
Per-event consent
Section titled “Per-event consent”Per-event consent is triggered when an event is published with activity flags that go beyond the standing consent scope:
| Flag | What it means |
|---|---|
| Off-site | Travel away from the regular meeting venue |
| Water | Activities in or near water |
| Overnight | Sleeping overnight away from home |
| Transport by leader | Driven by a licensed, verified leader |
| Adventurous | AAL-classified activities (climbing, abseiling, MTB, etc.) |
When you publish such an event, Tussock dispatches consent requests to parents. If your group enables the “Consent overdue” notification, parents are auto-nudged 48 hours before the event.
The parent consent form
Section titled “The parent consent form”Parents see:
- Event details: title, date, time, location
- Activity flag chips explaining what the event involves
- Per-activity toggles — parents can consent to each flag individually (e.g. consent to off-site but not water)
- A conditions field for notes (pickup arrangements, allergies, etc.)
- Sign & send or Decline buttons
If the parent consents to some flags but not all, the consent state is Partial.
Consent states
Section titled “Consent states”| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Standing | Covered by annual standing consent |
| Pending | Consent request sent, awaiting response |
| Consented | Parent signed consent for all activities |
| Partial | Parent consented to some activities but not all |
| Revoked | Parent withdrew their consent |
| Verbal attested | Leader recorded verbal consent at drop-off |
| Attending without | Leader allowed attendance without consent (audit-logged) |
Leader-side management
Section titled “Leader-side management”On the event detail page, the Consent tab shows:
- A progress bar: signed / verbal / pending / declined / unclaimed
- A countdown to the consent deadline (24 hours before the event)
- Per-Scout consent status with filter chips (All, Action needed, Conditions, Signed)
Recording verbal consent
Section titled “Recording verbal consent”When a parent says yes at drop-off but didn’t sign online:
- Tap the Scout’s pending consent badge on the Active Night view.
- Enter the parent’s name.
- Tap Record verbal consent.
Attending without consent
Section titled “Attending without consent”As a last resort, if the parent is unreachable:
- Tap the Scout’s pending consent badge.
- Enter a reason explaining why attendance without consent is the safest option.
- Tap Attending without consent.
Material changes
Section titled “Material changes”If you change an event’s date, location, or activity flags after consent has been given, existing consents are reset to Pending and parents are asked to re-sign. This ensures parents always consent to the actual event, not an earlier version of it.
